MVC 15 Staff

MVC - Jason - Mike Moser

Years Coaching: 3, all with MVC. Really 2.5 (thanks, COVID), but I'm rounding up.

Playing Background:
Club: 6 years for (NS)MVC as middle and DS (an unlikely trajectory). Never finished outside of gold in Open at Nationals. We won a lot. Everyone on the 18s team went on to play college at some level, half of us DI.
High School: 4 year varsity starter at Pius XI, class of 00. Classic 8 all-conference nods each year, Classic 8 Player of the Year.
College: 4 year starter at NYU as OH, class of 04. 2002 DIII Semifinalist, 2004 EIVA/NCAA (DI) Quarterfinalist, #5 in career aces (99) and attack attempts (2108).
Other: NYC Urban League (2004-2011), Boston Ski and Sports Club (2012-2016), quarterfinalist International Wallyball Championships (2006), completed three half marathons (NYC x2, Brewers Mini Marathon, best time 1:47:28)

Education: 2004 NYU BA Economic Theory, Photography minor. 2008 WSET Advanced Certificate with Distinction in Wine and Spirits. 2015 Certified Cicerone (later Exam Proctor for Cicerone Certification Program, 2015-2018).

Why I Love Coaching: Coaching side-by-side with the gentlemen who coached me (Jim Plaisted, Erik Olsen, Mike Fried) and those I've played with (Jake Nowak) or against (Brad Kuehl, Mike Endsley, Mike Warren, surely some of these other old timers...) has been incredibly rewarding. I've always loved the strategy and tactics of the game, so directing a team has been amazing. As you can see, my on-court experience runs the gamut, and this is due in large part to the excellent coaching I received at all levels, but starting here in this club. Teaching the entire game to everyone is a philosophy I've embraced, since you never know if you're going to be recruited as middle but the team needs a passer, as happened to me. Working with kids to perfect technique is great in the short run with immediate gratification, but teaching them to be a better teammate and person is my ultimate goal.

Day job: Senior Wine Specialist, Zachys Wine Auctions International.
